Final Permit Issued For New Demo Dump
Acting City Administrator for the City of Lawrenceburg, Ken Hinson, reported to members of the Board of Commissioners Thursday that the final permit has been issued that will allow the city to open it’s new demolition landfill.
“We received the final permit this week,” Hinson explained. However, he pointed out that the landfill is not yet ready to receive demolition debris.
Hinson indicated that excavation work has been underway at the new location on Wildcat Ridge, adjacent to the old demo dump. With agreeable weather conditions, Hinson estimated that the new demolition dump could be operational in approximately three weeks. Crews are currently working to construct a water retention pond and a roadway. Once that work is complete, they will begin excavation on the rear half of the property.
Since the closure of the old demolition dump, the city has been paying haulers to transport the city’s demolition debris to Giles County. They must then pay tipping fees in order to dump there.
Hinson also indicated that the closure of the old dump gained final approval last week. Inspectors with the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation conducted a final inspection on Tuesday. “They were very impressed with the closing of the old dump,” Hinson stated, “They had no negative comments at all.”
